The text field loses focus when I hit tab to complete a nickname

Description
It regains focus when I start typing, but in the (somewhat common) case where I hit tab and then hit backspace to remove the username again, this hides the channel as if I had been in the channel list.
Reproduce:
- Go into IRC channel
- Type the first letters of a nickname
- Hit tab to complete
- Hit backspace
This is with version 0.12.2
